Steven Tyler slaughters the Star Spangled Banner
Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Sunday's (January 22nd) AFC title game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens was blasted online, with one fan writing on Twitter, "Steven Tyler's national anthem before the Patriots/Ravens game couldn't have been any worse if Joihn Madden farted it through a harmonica." Tyler was also ridiculed for having a teleprompter nearby -- apparently in case he forgot the words.
The singer's previous performance of the national anthem, at a Boston Bruins hockey game in 2010, came under fire when he mumbled or mispronounced some of the lyrics, and his 2001 performance at the Indianapolis 500 was panned when he changed the line "home of the brave" to "home of the Indianapolis 500."
-Tyler returned earlier this month to American Idol for his second season on the panel of judges.
-He and the rest of Aerosmith have been working on a new studio album, which is tentatively set for release this spring.

Metallica Charity Auction for Haiti
Metallica has announced that it is auctioning off an autographed, customized guitar to help raise money for the people of Haiti. According to Noisecreep, the band posted a message online saying, "(Metallica) have partnered with charitybuzz.com to auction a signed and personalized ESP Ltd. Viper guitar. The axe, which boasts a high-gloss, redwood grain finish and custom ESP pick ups, will be signed by all four band members. But beyond the John Hancocks, drummer Lars Ulrich will also customize the autograph with whatever the winning bidder likes -- be it his or her name, favorite Metallica song or otherwise."
-Bidding for the guitar, which is valued at $10,000, will begin on February 1st.
-The auction will raise funds for J/P Haitian Relief Organization, a nonprofit founded by actor/directorSean Penn to rebuild the infrastructure destroyed by the earthquake and combat the poverty that the majority of Haitians are facing.
-Metallica is currently working on its 10th studio album, with Ulrich recently telling Rolling Stone that the band is "seven, eight songs" into the writing process.
-Guitarist Kirk Hammett described the upcoming disc as a "heavier 'black album,' referring to the group's breakout 1991 self-titled effort.
-Metallica will perform the 'black album' from front to back this summer at selected European festivals, including a headlining appearance at England's Download Festival in early June.
